BATTLE AT THE BEAU: Biloxi Braces for Professional Bull Riders Debut
The World’s Top 35 Bull Riders Return to the Mississippi Gulf Cost After Decade-Long Absence
BILOXI, Miss. – In less than one month, the most thrilling, adrenaline-filled, edge-of-your seat excitement is headed to Biloxi when the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) arrives at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21.
The Battle at the Beau, presented by PBR, will showcase the world’s top 35 bull riders in a fierce, 8-second battle with the best 2,000-pound bovine athletes in the business for their piece of the $140,000 event purse and the valuable points needed to become the 2013 PBR World Champion. It’s the 23rd stop on the BFTS and one of only 26 cities to host the series this year.
“I can’t tell you how excited we are to bring the Built Ford Tough Series to Mississippi for the first time in more than a decade,” said Jim Haworth, chairman and CEO of PBR. “PBR’s top riders are not only getting to compete at the largest beachfront facility in the South, they’ll also be entertaining fans who have watched us for years on TV and will now be able to enjoy the PBR spectacular in person.”
Riders currently scheduled to compete include five former PBR World Champions: Silvano Alves (2012, 2011), Renato Nunes, (2010), Kody Lostroh (2009), Guilherme Marchi (2008) and Mike Lee (2004).
Also expected are fan favorites J.B. Mauney, Shane Proctor, Luke Snyder and LJ Jenkins, along with young guns Chase Outlaw, Jory Markiss and Douglas Duncan.
“MGM Resorts and Beau Rivage are pleased to bring this exciting event to Biloxi,” said George P. Corchis, Jr., president and chief operating officer of MGM Resorts International’s Regional Operations. “The championship event in Las Vegas is always a big draw and we look forward to capturing some of that excitement on the Mississippi Gulf Coast as the cowboys compete in one of their final stops before heading to the World Finals.”
The weekend kicks off with the Professional Bull Riding Meet & Greet at in EIGHT75 Beau Rivage Thursday, September 19th from 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The public is invited to meet and take photos with bull riders Jory Markiss and Sean Willingham.
