World Poker Tour Partners with MGM Mirage for Mississippi Gulf Coast's First Televised Event
$10,000 Buy-In Gulf Coast Poker Championship Set for Beau Rivage Resort & Casino
BILOXI, Miss. – August 8, 2007 – High-stakes celebrity poker action is headed to the Mississippi Gulf Coast as WPT Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: WPTE) and MGM MIRAGE (NYSE: MGM) announce the first-ever televised Gulf Coast World Poker Tour tournament: the Beau Rivage Gulf Coast Poker Championship. The event begins August 29 and culminates with the World Poker Tour main event Sept. 6-9, 2007.
"We are excited to welcome Beau Rivage Resort & Casino to our 2007 Season VI tournament schedule," said Founder, President and CEO of the WPT Steve Lipscomb. "The MGM MIRAGE properties are always successful in promoting and establishing our tournaments, and when we decided to add new tour stops to Season VI, Beau Rivage was an obvious choice."
Twelve action-filled days will include 10 tournament events, with buy-ins from $300 up to $10,000 for the WPT championship event. In addition, there will be daily No-Limit Hold’em Tournaments, $500 buy-in +$40 entry fee Mega Satellites for the championship event every afternoon, and $175 buy-in + $25 entry fee Second Chance Tournaments every night. The popular Ladies No-Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8 with a $200 buy in + $30 entry fee. To commemorate the Gulf Coast’s first major poker tournament, Beau Rivage will kick-off the WPT main event, Sept. 5, with an exclusive poolside championship party with players participating in the main event.
Havoc Energy Drink will sponsor the "Best All Around Player Award" and provide a $10,000 seat into the Gold Strike World Poker Open WPT championship event for the player obtaining the most points in the Beau Rivage Gulf Coast Poker Championship pre-established points system. In addition to an anticipated million-dollar prize pool, the winner of the championship event will receive a bracelet and a $25,500 seat in the World Poker Tour Championship at Bellagio in April 2008.
"Beau Rivage is proud to host the largest and first-ever televised event on the Mississippi Gulf Coast," said Ken Lambert, Jr., Beau Rivage director of poker operations. "The Gulf Coast Poker Championship kicks off August 29, on the one-year anniversary of Beau Rivage’s re-opening and the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This event represents a milestone in the area's recovery and underscores two important messages: it’s back to ‘business as usual’ at the AAA Four Diamond Beau Rivage and high-stakes poker action is alive and well in South Mississippi."
With high ceilings and an open floor plan, Beau Rivage's smoke-free poker room is one of the most spacious and comfortable in the South. Located alongside the resort's three gourmet restaurants BR Prime, Todd English’s Olives, and Jia, past a striking onyx and marble entryway, the poker room’s 16 tables are accentuated by luxurious leather-paneled walls. The room offers a variety of popular games including Texas Hold’em, 7-Card Stud and Omaha High Low Split, and a high stakes area where No-Limit Texas Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha encourage players to go all in. Dedicated amenities include personal safety deposit boxes, knowledgeable staff available 24 hours a day, tableside food and beverage service, daily tournaments and free lessons upon request.
"The luxurious Beau Rivage is an ideal fit for the 2007 Season VI Tournament Schedule," said Lipscomb. "The combination of its southern charm and elegance with the lush landscape of the Gulf Coast is an exciting addition for the World Poker Tour and its viewers.
The WPT Season VI will begin airing in early 2008 as part of GSN’s Monday night casino lineup where the network has built a substantial following in the casino game genre. Season V currently airs every Wednesday night on the Travel Channel at 9PM Eastern.
