Chinese Acrobats and Russian Dancers Entertain at Beau Rivage

BILOXI, Miss. – Beau Rivage’s new production show Y opens to audiences tonight and will run through June 15 in the 1,550-seat Beau Rivage Theatre.

Y is cross-cultural fusion featuring a cast of 50 award-winning performers from China’s famed Hebei Acrobatic Troupe and Russia’s respected dance company Todes. “The 80-minute production is a dynamic blend of artistry and adrenaline, a mix of Chinese acrobatics and Russian dancing that combines spectacular choreography, costumes and state-of-the-art sound and lighting effects,” said Terry Burden, vice president of entertainment at Beau Rivage. “The talent in this production is on an entirely different level.”

Established in the 1970s, the Hebei Acrobatic Troupe began as a province-level professional acrobatic troupe and has grown to become a world famous large-scale ensemble. They have won numerous international awards and its main strength is formed of the professional youth acrobats, as every retiring acrobat has the responsibility of training the new to be top-quality acrobats. The troupe combines modern technique with its deep rooted traditional art foundation. Under the direction of the concept -"glory in the prosperity of the troupe and shame in the degeneration of it,” the artists create superior and excellent acrobatic masterpieces with new styles, high skills and elegant presentations.

Choreographed by Alla Duchova, Russia’s foremost choreographer and head of the country’s top dance company Todes, Y blends amazing acts of skill and agility with cutting edge modern dance. Duchova, who operates 25 dance schools and studios throughout Russia, Latvia, the Ukraine, and other countries formerly part of the Soviet Union, has been described as “today’s Russian answer to Bob Fosse.”

Individual tickets are $9.95, $19.95 and $29.95 plus tax and service fee for evening and matinee performances. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday; no performances on Friday.
