Fallen Oak Earns Recognition From Golf Digest as One of the Best 50 19th Holes in Golf
MGM MIRAGE’S Tom Fazio-Designed Course Adds Off-Course Honor To Lengthening List of Awards
BILOXI, Miss. – Fallen Oak has already drawn praise from golfers of all abilities and experiences for its inherent beauty and playability. Now, the Beau Rivage-owned golf course outside of Biloxi, Miss. drew praise for another element of its must-see venue when Golf Digest Magazine named Fallen Oak as having one of the “50 Best 19th Holes” in golf.
Fallen Oak’s 12,000-square foot Southern mansion clubhouse features a 19th hole that provides patrons panoramic views of the signature 18th hole and the course’s namesake fallen oak. Once golfers finish tackling the rugged par-4 18th and drive through the oak canopy to the clubhouse, they can repose to a 70-seat lounge that offers a world of cocktail and culinary comforts.
Golf Digest selected the best 19th holes based on places “golfers often would rather spend time there than in their own home.” The magazine selected Fallen Oak based on a clubhouse mansion that “has an Old South feel” with service that “is Southern hospitality at its best.”
The magazine went on to say that the mansion features “booze/wine selections that are impressive.”
“This honor reflects not only the amount of work we put into the course, but the care and attention we put into making Fallen Oak’s clubhouse a comfortable, yet beautiful place,” said George P. Corchis, Jr., president and chief operating officer of MGM MIRAGE’s Mississippi resorts, which includes Beau Rivage in Biloxi and the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica. “The hospitality factor is something we take very seriously and put a great deal of effort into maintaining. That is why this is such a welcome honor for us to receive.”
Despite the fact the course has been open for less than two years, Fallen Oak finds itself in elite company, joining the likes of The Country Club at Brookline, Merion Golf Club, Pine Valley Golf Club, Winged Foot Golf Club, Oakmont Country Club and Hollywood hangouts Bel-Air Country Club and Lakeside Golf Club.
The honor is the first off-course award for Fallen Oak, which opened in November 2006 to positive reviews from all audiences. The dramatic elevation changes – rare for a Gulf Coast course – and more than 4,000 oaks, magnolias, pines and other hardwood trees framing the fairways, ponds, streams and wetlands impressed both players and golf writers alike.
Aside from those elevation changes, remarkably true-rolling greens and Fazio’s dynamic design tactics of using the DeSoto National Forest and all its inherent natural elements as a template, the multi-million dollar course features undulating terrain and pecan orchards amid the oaks, pines and magnolias.
Joining the heralded Shadow Creek as the only golf courses built by MGM MIRAGE for its guests, Fallen Oak stretches a hearty 7,487 yards from the tips and offers golfers five sets of tees and strategic play options.
Available exclusively for guests of Beau Rivage, greens fees for Fallen Oak are $200-$300. To make reservations, call (877) 805-4657 or visit www.beaurivage.com.
