MGM MIRAGE Mississippi Employees Make A Difference in the Community
Today marks the culmination of a two-week long, two casino resort
employee volunteer initiative to “make a difference” in Mississippi. Employees from Beau Rivage in Biloxi and Gold Strike in Tunica will dedicate community beautification projects as part of MGM MIRAGE Mississippi Operations’ 3rd Annual MPACT week, which began on Oct. 19, included “Make a Difference Day” on Oct. 24 and is scheduled to wrap up today after weather delays have pushed back each community outdoor beautification project’s completion. The MPact campaign- designed to unify employees from Beau Rivage and Gold Strike in a comprehensive statewide community impact effort – is centered on giving back to the communities where employees live, work and raise their families.
“It reinforces the notion that despite being on opposite ends of the state, we are one Mississippi team and together we can make a real impact” said George P. Corchis, Jr., president and chief operating officer of MGM MIRAGE’s Mississippi Operations, “MPact Week provides a range of options and opportunities for employee volunteerism and community service.”
Visitors and residents of Biloxi will be able to enjoy the complete renovation of the beautiful Rue Magnolia Fountain located across the street from Beau Rivage in downtown Biloxi, while residents and guests of the Landmark of Desoto nursing home in Horn Lake, Miss. will benefit from a newly expanded and covered outdoor patio and scenic landscaping incorporating new trees, shrubs and flowers compliments of MGM MIRAGE Mississippi, its employees and its vendors.
This year’s volunteer activities included book readings on tape for hospitalized children on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis; a blood drive; a support our troops care package drive and making blankets for babies.
More than 200 MGM MIRAGE Mississippi employees and their families donated their time and resources to read 40 children’s books on tape (along with 20 new CD players), make 40 fleece blankets for children in foster care, donate 30 units of blood, and gather 38 different items for 125 individual care packages that will be delivered to U.S. troops fighting in wars overseas.
